‘The Platform’ / Castellum Palensteyn Zoetermeer / 2010
The artwork is located in the Atrium of Castellum Palensteyn, a newly build multifunctional complex, housing two primary schools, a childcare center, a community center, a media library and a sports facility.
In this spacious atrium the installation created resembles a platform with benches, lanterns, trees and kiosks. The kiosks are abundantly filled with attractive objects and collectors items and can be seen from classroom windows. The selection of the items in the kiosks is based on personal fascinations, colors and on the presumed interest of the children and adults that populate the complex on a daily base. Several personal collections are used in new objects or are displayed in a special manner.
Preparations of martens, chicks, parakeets, pheasants, beetles, butterflies, a collections of perfume bottles, hairdryers, Eiffel towers, crystallized lace, liquor bottles, Faller stations, train platforms, bridges, strings of pearl, jewelry, girly stickers, baseball caps, coffee and teapots, rubber balls………
but also; Sponge-Bob, Patrick, Otto, Plankton, Mr. Crabs, Gerrit and Sandy, TinTin and Bobbie, Woody, Buzz, Hamm, Slinky, Rex and Jesse, Sulley and Mike, All the Incredibles, Nemo, Wallie, Lightning McQeen, Mario and Luigi, Micky , Mini and Donald, Bert, Erny and Grover, Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and many other Simpson characters , Barbie and Ken, Shreck, Superman, Spiderman, Cinderella, Winnie de Pooh and Igor, Jesus and Maria, Budha, Pinokkio, Mega Mindi and all my other heroes.
